Tidbits & Nibbles #2

May 23, 2014 by Kay Leave a Comment

Happy Friday to Everyone. I hope you all get to enjoy an extended weekend.

Family is visiting from New Hampshire and Baltimore plus we have a birthday party for the youngest Bastians in the family. My niece Hadley turned 4 this week and my nephew Finn turns 2. We will be attending their birthday party on Saturday.

As we gather this weekend with friends and family, may we all remember those who have paid for our freedom and the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Here are a few items that caught my eye this week. Click on the blue names to get to the link.

A rhubarb crisp with Rumchata, yum!

A berry crisp with Sangria, double yum!

A different take on a fresh salsa, looks crisp & delicious.

Grilled Chicken with a fresh fruit & veggie topping.

This burger has two items that rate high on my list of ingredients.

A new way to enjoy a lemonade cocktail.

Here’s what wine to stock in your fridge for the summer.

For the kid in all of us, strawberry popsicles.

Enjoy!

Tidbits & Nibbles #1

May 16, 2014 by Kay 1 Comment

I’m starting something new on Love Food, Will Share, it’s called Tidbits & Nibbles. I will share tidbits from my life and feature some Nibbles that I’m craving right now. This will be a weekly feature, I hope you enjoy this.

These are my three girls. From the left, Hailey (the oldest), Mackenzie (the youngest) and Kiley (middle girl) and I’m going to brag about them today.

My Girls

My Girls

Hailey just graduated with a degree as a Paralegal. She was offered a job earlier this week, way to go Hailey, so proud. Mackenzie has been busy this week finishing up her finals and finishing up her 3rd year at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. She will be home tomorrow and spending the summer with us, can’t wait. Kiley lives in Minneapolis (where she also went to school) and is working at Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy. She is working hard to protect Minnesota’s environment, keep up the good work.

I can’t write this post without talking about the newest additions to our household, Oscars and Olives. They make us smile multiple times a day and I’m sure you will agree they are the cutest. Olives has the dark striping and Oscars is the white and gray kitty.

Olives & Oscars favorite blanket.

They rarely leave each others side.

My birthday was a few days before Mother’s Day and I was surprised with this gift from my husband, Mr. B and my girls. BEST. GIFT. POSSIBLE. So pumped to start using this…..

Nibbles of the week… Click on the words in blue to be taken to the recipe.

This quick bread using Straw-ber-ita.

Get on the Quinoa wagon with this shrimp dish.

For my gluten free friends, these muffins look scrumptious.

I love potatoes and these twice baked potatoes are the bomb.

It’s rhubarb season and these streusel bars are on my list of must make soon.

It’s grilling season and I wish I was grilling this burger right now.

This drink using Moscato might become a summertime favorite.

Green salads with fruit always catch my eye, and this salad is very appealing.

Here are some great summer dining and entertaining items.

Have a great weekend!

Enjoy!

Stock Your Spice Rack

September 22, 2013 by Kay 9 Comments

Trying to determine what spices to keep on hand can be tricky but it can be done. My recommendation if you are purchasing a new spice and you are not sure how much you will use it, buy only a small container of it. Of course, your basic spices like salt and pepper you can purchase in a larger size container. What brand name of spice to buy?  I can tell you that I buy a good portion of my spices at The Spice Crate and Penzeys Spices. They both offer on-line ordering or stop at their location(s) and you can take a whiff of the spices. I also buy spices in the natural food section or from the spice aisle at my local grocery store.

Stock Your Pantry

September 22, 2013 by Kay Leave a Comment

You don’t really need to have a pantry to stock one. A cupboard will do, a closet will do, you can make it work just about anywhere. I remember my first apartment had a closet that I had to use as a pantry because my kitchen had about 3 cupboards total so I had to adjust and use what was available to me. Many homes and kitchens later, I have a walk-in pantry that is filled, possibly over filled. Last year I had my hubby Bill convert a closet into another pantry, crazy I know. Here is a list of items I try and have on hand in my pantry.
