Nibbles

Tidbits & Nibbles #14

September 4, 2014 by Kay Leave a Comment

Welcome to my weekly post, Tidbits & Nibbles, where I share what’s going on in my life, the week’s recipes that I have shared and recipes from the blogosphere that have caught my eye.

On the home front this week, Mackenzie has returned to UW Milwaukee for her final year. I spoke with her today and everything seems to be off to a good start.  It’s a bit quiet around the house without her around, but the husband and I are adjusting. The twins are keeping us occupied. If you are wondering who the twins are, they are our two kittens, here is a picture of Oscars & Olives.

Tomatoes are finally ripening in the garden, it’s definitely late for tomatoes this year. The next week will be spent canning various tomato products; tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce and tomato paste to name a few.  I canned a new item this week called Cowboy Candy, it’s jalapeno peppers in a sweet brine, so you get heat and sweet in the same bite.

This week’s recipe’s from Love Food, Will Share (click on the photo to be directed to the recipe):

Apple Pie Bread 8

Pesto 3 Ways

I love how the pesto clings to the shrimp.

Pesto Pepper Pizza 10

Preserving peaches in honey, yummy!

Now that tomatoes are in abundance, I must make this dish.

A new way to enjoy meatballs.

If you are like me and go pick apples this fall, you will want this to go along with them.

Pick extra apples and enjoy these nachos? Yes, I said nachos!

This outfit totally is perfect for fall and for me 🙂

Enjoy!

Tidbits & Nibbles #13

Here is the Friday edition of Tidbits & Nibbles. I hope everyone had a great week. As summer comes to a close I also hope everyone had a super summer and enjoy the long Labor Day weekend.

I helped teach a canning class last weekend and it was a huge success. If anyone who attended is reading this, thank you and I hope I have started you down the right road to  start canning.

I have been canning for 5 years and truly enjoy preserving the summer bounty of vegetables. I can go a little wild with it, this past year and the year before I canned over 400 jars….yikes! I do get help from the husband, Mr. B and last year my SIL and BIL, Kathy and Dave drove from New Hampshire to assist. They are here this coming week but our tomato crop is late this year so I am not sure how much we will be able to can.

I hope by next year I can post some of my recipes for canning and show step by step instructions.  I hope to inspire more people to can and preserve food without a lot of additives and preservatives.

Zucchini Cake 7

I used pepper crusted bacon.

I love a cookie that can be made into bars!

For me, the more toppings on Nachos, the better and these are loaded.

I can’t believe this drink is back.

Here is an article on the science of baking that I will definitely be reading.

A quick & easy breakfast idea, perfect for back to school.

Enjoy!

Tidbits & Nibbles #12

August 22, 2014 by Kay Leave a Comment

Hi everyone, I am back with another edition of Tidbits & Nibbles.

You may have noticed I was absent from posting any new recipes or my weekly Tidbits & Nibbles last week. I took off because I had a lot going on with family and friends so I decided to put the blog on hold for a few days. Here is what I was up to…..

First, I put on a Farm Workshop on Tuesday. I spent the evening at Park Ridge Organics with Cyndi from Dalla Terra Pasta. She showed how to make ravioli and it was fabulous! I made some home made vinaigrette’s for the salad bar that everyone feasted on. I also made sauces to go along with the ravioli. I made Roasted Tomato & Fennel Sauce, Celery Pesto, Kale Pesto and a Cherry Tomato & Zucchini Sauce. And of course, I served dessert because no meal is complete without dessert. I made a Chocolate Zucchini Cake and a Lemon Blueberry Zucchini Cake. It was a great night and I met some wonderful people.

Second, some good friends got married. The husband, three daughters and I were thrilled to be a part of this happy couple’s wedding;

CONGRATULATIONS JOE & COLETTE!

Here are the new recipes I featured this week, click on the photo to be taken to the recipe;

I love a good Mac & Cheese!

Real Comfort Food

Roasted Beet & Peach Salad

And here are this week’s Nibbles. Click on the words in blue to be taken to the recipe.

BBQ, Bacon & Cheese on a tasty burger.

I love salmon and I will love it even more when it’s bathed in butter & garlic.

Cake Batter Monster Cookie Sandwich, need I say more?

I have a ton of fresh vegetables on hand and this dip would be perfect to eat them with.

My daughter Kiley is gluten free and I am sure she would love this cake.

I bought a new slow cooker this week and I think this chicken will be one of the first recipes I will make in it.

How cute are these mini fruit pies? Almost too cute to eat…..almost! 🙂

Enjoy!

Happy Friday my Friends!

How is the weather by you? It’s in the mid 80’s here in Wisconsin and it should stay that way through the weekend. Yippeeee! So excited to have a warm and sunny weekend! My weekend will start with a Friday Fish Fry overlooking beautiful Lake Winnebago.

My good friend Colette is getting married in two weeks and tomorrow is her bachlorette party. We will be enjoying drinks and dinner while enjoying the views of Lake Winnebago. Hmmmm, two days in a row enjoying the nice weather and the lake, let’s hope a good time is had by all.

Ok, now on to other things. Can any of you figure out what city is behind the wine glass?

Any guesses? I will be heading to this fabulous city the middle of September and I can’t tell you how pumped I am. I will be going to Pike Place Market, The original Starbuck’s, the Space Needle for sure. Still can’t figure it out?? I am headed to Seattle! I have had Seattle on my places to visit for quite some time and will be happy to cross it off my list finally. If you have any suggestions of things to do, places to eat & drink, please leave a comment.

This week’s recipes from my kitchen. Click on the photo to be directed to the recipe.

Fruity Goodness

Use pepper bacon for more flavor.

And finally, this week’s nibbles. Click on the words in blue to be directed to the recipe.

I love guacamole and here is an Italian version that looks delish!

I just bought some shrimp yesterday and I will be making this quesadilla with them.

I love cookies made with oatmeal and chocolate chips so I need to try these bars, I can just see myself sinking my teeth into one.

I so love pancakes, love, love, love them and I just added these pancakes to my recipe list.

This isn’t an ordinary grilled cheese, it’s extraordinary!

Kahlua in a pie, yum!

Enjoy!
