BBQ Sauce

Roasted Strawberry BBQ Sauce

June 23, 2014 by Kay Leave a Comment

Roasted Strawberry BBQ Sauce has a sweet and tangy flavor and is sure to impress who ever you serve it too.

It was “back to work day” today both at my day time job and my job being a recipe blogger. The day went quick trying to catch up at the office and picking out a recipe to feature today. It was a bit strange not posting any recipe’s last week while I was in the Outer Banks, but it was nice to have a break. I did a lot of cooking for the family, I will share more on my vacation at a later date.

Roasted Strawberry BBQ Sauce is a delicious homemade bbq sauce that makes your mouth come alive. You get a sweet flavor from the strawberries and a tangy flavor from the bbq ingredients. I served this sauce on chicken but it would be equally good on pork or meatballs.

First you roast the strawberries to bring out the maximum sweetness of them. Add the strawberries to the bbq ingredients, cook on low and put the sauce in a food processor to produce Roasted Strawberry BBQ Sauce. Simply delicious!

Enjoy!

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped

Add the roasted strawberries. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce to low and cook for 15 minutes. Mix in the cilantro. Add the sauce to a food processor, blender or use an immersion blender and pulse until combined.

Honey Balsamic BBQ Sauce

April 5, 2014 by Kay 1 Comment

Balsamic vinegar is cooked down to a thick syrup and is added to honey, barbeque sauce and brown sugar to become a flavorful sauce that can be used on meatballs, chicken or pork chops.

This sauce has a lot of complex layers that come alive in your mouth. If you are looking for a kicked up BBQ sauce, try Honey Balsamic BBQ Sauce, you won’t be disappointed.

I love this sauce on my recipe for Herb Meatballs.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 bottle BBQ Sauce

Instructions

  • Add the balsamic vinegar and agave to a sauce pan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium low and cook on a low boil for 35 minutes. Add in the brown sugar and bbq sauce and heat through for 10 minutes. Pour the sauce over the meatballs. At this point you can serve them now or you can add them to a slow cooker and keep warm over low heat.

Sloppy Joe’s

March 23, 2014 by Kay 2 Comments

Sloppy Joe’s are an All American Classic sandwich full of hamburger, onion, pepper and a tangy sauce.

This recipe certainly takes me back to my childhood, although the recipe my Mom used to make is a bit different than my recipe. I add a bit off BBQ sauce, sweet pickle relish and apple cider vinegar to give the sandwich a unique and delicious tangy flavor.

I use ground chuck to reduce the amount of fat in the sandwich and I add in peppers to incorporate more vegetables. I like to find ways to add more vegetables into my recipes. If you have kids that don’t like to eat their vegetables, this is a good trick to have up your sleeve.

Rather than serving the Sloppy Joe’s on a bun, you can also serve this on top of tortilla chips with cheddar cheese melted on top. All you need to do is preheat your oven to 350 degrees, line a baking sheet with tortilla chips, top the chips with the hot Sloppy Joe mixture and sprinkle with cheese. Bake for 7-10 minutes until the cheese is melted.

Yield: Approx. 8 Sandwiches

Sloppy Joe’s

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 medium sweet pepper, chopped
  • 1 ½ lb.s ground chuck
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. pepper
  • ½ cup sweet pickle relish
  • 2 – 5 tbsp. apple cider vinegar * See note below
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. yellow mustard
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce, **

Instructions

  • In a large sauce pan over medium high heat add the olive oil, onion and pepper. Saute for 5 minutes, remove from the pan and set aside. Add the ground chuck to the pan and season with the salt & pepper. Brown the meat until it’s cooked through, about 8 minutes. Drain the fat from the pan and add the onion mixture back in to the pan and stir to combine, reduce heat to medium.
  • While the ground chuck is browning, combine the following in a bowl: relish, vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard and BBQ sauce. Stir to combine and add it to the meat mixture. Stir to combine. Cook until heated through, 5-8 minutes. Serve on your favorite bun, I recommend a soft bun.

Notes

* Start with 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar, taste the Sloppy Joe's at that time and determine if you would like to add more. ** I prefer Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce because it is a thick BBQ Sauce and works well in this recipe.
